Institute of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development

Institute of Agricultural Economics was founded on 21st of April, 2005 and entered in the register of scientific and research institutions of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Republic of Srpska on 22nd of Dec., 2005, and in 2013 it changed its name to the Institute of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development.

The research team of the Institute consists of seven DSc, one MSc and one Associate. Scientific research activities and professional services are performed at the Institute in the fields of: agriculture and rural development – agromanagement; entrepreneurship; planning in agribusiness; marketing; agricultural products market and market research; economics and organizations in agriculture; international integration; costs and calculations; investment in agriculture; rural financing; project management; agricultural accounting; business analysis of agricultural holdings; selection method of optimal agricultural production; policies and programming of rural development; agricultural consultancy; cooperatives and other associations in agriculture; regional development and rural tourism.

The Institute of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development provides services in transferring  scientific and technical knowledge in the field of economics of agriculture and rural development into a practical application; preparation of strategic and program documents, and plans in the field of agriculture and rural development; drafting of proposals and analyses of the effects of policies of encouragement in development of agriculture and rural areas; preparation of studies, analyses and business plans in the field of agriculture and rural development; education in the field of agricultural economics and rural development; market research and public opinion polls; organizing meetings and trade shows; preparation, revision and implementation of development and applied projects and studies in the field of agriculture and rural development, consulting and marketing services.

Institute of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development has already implemented a number of scientific research and professional projects and programs for the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Republic of Srpska, Ministry of Science and Technology of the Republic of Srpska, a certain number of municipalities in the Republic of Srpska and some governmental and international organizations.

Advisory Centre for Rural Development

Within the Institute of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development there is Advisory Centre for Rural Development. The Center was established in 2011 as a result of the participation of the Faculty of Agriculture in Banja Luka in the TEMPUS Project of Establishment of Advisory Network for Rural Development in the Western Balkans, by curricula reform (WBREN). The Centre has got a room with 15 PCs and other supporting computer equipment and is suitable for organization of trainings for smaller groups of students.

The objective of the establishment and operation of the Centre is to provide support in the implementation of teaching in the second cycle of studies for students of Rural Development and Agribusiness Course. Additional aim is training of counselors and other staff that relates to the practical implementation of activities in the field of rural development, emphasizing the acquisition of new knowledge on rural development and new teaching methods in the teaching process. In addition to these activities, the Centre implements its activities through the organization of round tables, debates and professional lectures, intended for students and other interested parties in order to improve their knowledge and skills. Thanking to the Centre and its activities, the students have regular access to the information and have more opportunities to share professional opinions, which significantly contributes to their increased competence.
